Why Shopify sites lose rankings and conversions

Most Shopify stores are slow for one reason: apps. Every review widget, pop-up, wishlist and pixel injects its own script into theme.liquid, and after a year of experiments a typical store loads eight to twelve third-party bundles before the hero image appears. Lighthouse shows it as a mobile LCP of three to five seconds, and Shopify’s own data shows what that does to add-to-cart rates.

The second problem is structural. Shopify exposes the same product at /products/handle and /collections/x/products/handle, generates tag and sort URLs for every collection, and many themes lose the canonical tag on the collection-scoped variant. Title and meta description templates in the theme mean whole collections share one snippet, and the JSON-LD most themes ship stops at Organization when Product and BreadcrumbList would earn rich results.

WebVitalist crawls your storefront the way Google does, measures it on a mobile device, and turns the findings into copy rewrites and – with a Fix Pack – Liquid snippets you can paste into your theme.

Checks

What we check on Shopify

On top of the standard technical, performance, accessibility and copy checks, the report looks for the problems specific to Shopify.

  • 01 Third-party app scripts in theme.liquid and their effect on LCP and Total Blocking Time
  • 02 Duplicate product URLs via /collections/…/products/… and whether the canonical tag survives
  • 03 Collection, tag and sort_by parameter URLs that create thin duplicate pages
  • 04 Title and meta description templates shared across collections and products
  • 05 Product, Offer and BreadcrumbList JSON-LD versus what the theme actually renders
  • 06 Hero and product images without width/height, lazy-loading of above-the-fold media
  • 07 Broken links to sold-out or archived products in featured collections
  • 08 Accessible names on icon-only cart, search and menu buttons

How the Fix Pack works for Shopify

The Fix Pack tells you exactly where each change lives in the Shopify admin: Online Store → Themes → Edit code for theme.liquid, header.liquid and section files, Collections → Search engine listing for per-collection metadata, and Navigation → URL redirects for dead product links. Snippets are written in Liquid and use Shopify’s image_url and content_for_header conventions, so they work with Dawn and Online Store 2.0 themes without breaking the theme editor.

FAQ

Shopify questions, answered.

Do you need access to my Shopify admin?

No. We audit the public storefront only, like a shopper or Googlebot would. You paste the fixes yourself, or ask us for a quote to implement them via a collaborator account.

Will the audit tell me which apps are slowing my store down?

Yes. We list the third-party scripts found in your theme with their measured cost, so you can see which apps are worth their weight and which to remove or defer.

Does it work with Shopify Plus and headless (Hydrogen) stores?

Yes. Plus stores are audited like any storefront. Hydrogen and other headless setups are detected as their framework (Remix, Next.js) and the checks and fixes adapt accordingly.
