Website audit for local retail
Shoppers check hours, stock and directions before they walk in, and Google is where that happens. Common site problems are copied product descriptions, store information locked in images, and heavy galleries. Duplicate/thin-page checks catch weak copy; image-only store info is a manual check; gallery weight is measured in paid Lighthouse runs.
The free scan checks one page in about 30 seconds. No account, no card.
What the audit adds
- Lighthouse on a mobile device: LCP, INP/TBT, CLS, page weight
- Technical SEO checks on every crawled page
- Site-wide crawl issues: duplicates, thin pages, orphan pages
- AI copy and conversion review with ready-to-paste rewrites
- A prioritized 30-day plan for your site
What usually goes wrong
Website problems that matter for local retail
Each item lists the checks that detect it. When we do not check something automatically, it says so and tells you what to do by hand.
Product copy pasted from suppliers
The manufacturer’s description is on hundreds of other stores. Search engines keep one of them, usually not yours.
- Content length
- Duplicate meta descriptions (site-wide crawl)
The crawl compares pages on your own site. Rewrite the products you want to rank for in your own voice; three sentences of your own beat the supplier text.
Hours and address only in a photo
An image of the storefront with hours baked in cannot be read by search engines, maps or screen readers.
Not checked automatically — do this by hand.
We cannot read text inside images. Type hours, address and holiday changes as text in the footer so Google and customers can read them.
Heavy product galleries
Uncompressed photos make product pages the slowest pages on the site.
Not checked automatically — do this by hand.
No technical check measures page weight. Lighthouse in every paid audit measures page weight and LCP for the pages that matter. Export web-sized photos.
No structured data (JSON-LD) at all
The structured-data check only reports whether any JSON-LD exists — not LocalBusiness fields. Most independent stores ship none.
- Structured data
After any JSON-LD is present, LocalBusiness markup for name, hours and location is advice for richer results, not what the check verifies.
No page about the store itself
The pages that bring in “near me” searches describe the store and what it stocks, not just the products.
- Content length
Write one honest page about what you stock, where you are and who shops there. The crawl flags thin pages that need more substance.
FAQ
Local retail questions, answered.
Do you check our Google Business Profile or maps listing?
No. The audit covers your website. Your Business Profile is managed in Google.
Can you audit our online store too?
Yes, if it is on the same domain. The crawler follows links from the URL you give it, up to the product’s page limit, so shop pages are checked alongside the rest.
Is a website worth it if all our sales are in person?
Most shoppers still look you up first. Hours, directions and a sense of what you stock are the minimum, and that is what the technical checks and the copy review look at.
How long does an audit take?
The free scan takes about 30 seconds. Paid audits run for a few minutes to around fifteen depending on the product and site size, and the report lands in your inbox when it is done.
By platform
On these platforms?
Many local retail sites run on one of these. The platform pages list the same problems from the platform side, with fixes written for it.
