Answer

Do I need Ahrefs for one website?

Last reviewed · WebVitalist

No. Ahrefs, and suites like Semrush, are for ongoing keyword and backlink research. One small-business website usually needs a one-time audit, not a seat near $129 a month. Use a suite when you track rankings every month. Use an audit when you need a fix plan once.

What to do about it

  1. Ask what you will do every month. If the answer is keyword research, competitor backlinks, and rank tracking, a suite is the right tool.
  2. If the answer is that you want to know what to fix on this one site, a suite is more product than the job. A one-time audit matches that job.
  3. Start with the free WebVitalist scan so you see technical issues before you pay anything.
  4. Choose Audit once at $9 for a shorter report, or Deep Audit at $29 when you want more pages and a plan. Both are one-time.
  5. Add Fix Pack at $149 only if you want platform-specific code for Squarespace, Wix, Shopify, or WordPress. It is an upsell, not a subscription.
  6. Revisit a monthly suite later if you start publishing and tracking search every month. You can buy the audit without the suite.

What WebVitalist checks

The free scan runs 19 technical checks on one public URL. These are the ones that matter for this question:

  • Page title (title): The free scan fails a page with no title, and warns when the title is shorter than 30 or longer than 65 characters.
  • Meta description (meta-description): The free scan fails a page with no meta description, and warns when it is shorter than 70 or longer than 165 characters.
  • HTML size (html-size): The free scan warns when the HTML document is larger than 400 kB, which the browser must download and parse before it can paint anything.

A paid audit ($9 and up) also runs a real mobile Lighthouse test through Google PageSpeed Insights and reads field data for LCP, INP and CLS, where Google has it.
